Ethernet Bridge/Access Point Bridge
Ethernet Bridge
An ethernet bridge uses the Data Layer (Layer 2) of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Reference Model to find computers on a network, using the Media Access Control (or MAC) address. While routers use the Level 3 of the OSI model and offer additional features, for a corporate LAN the router may be expensive, unnecessarily difficult to configure and will not provide extra bandwidth.
In many cases, the use of a bridge or ethernet extension may be a perfect solution, combining plug-and-play with full duplex 100Mbps throughput at a low price point. If your network needs to be extended across the hall, several floors lower or in another building, Enable-IT offers a wide range of ethernet extension products that can be sued as an ethernet bridge.
Access Point Bridge
One common usage for an ethernet extension or ethernet bridge device is to create an access point – either an ethernet switch or a wireless access point. By using the Enable-IT 860 with it's four 100Mbps throughput ports, you can attach a network switch offer network access in a location up to 1 mile away as well as attaching a wireless access point and allowing users to connect wirelessly.
Network Extenders
Through the use of the Enable-IT product line, ethernet extenders (or network extenders) allow the network engineer to deploy a wide variety of devices – from wireless access points and IP surveillance cameras to ethernet switches in disparate location with no penalty to bandwidth at a reasonable price with a very reliable product.
